Why Kingstone made it
Kingstone CEO Art Ayris is a former children’s pastor. Working with unchurched kids from hard circumstances, he struggled to find good resources to teach them the Bible, and Kingstone Comics grew out of that need: a way to explain Scripture to kids while giving them healthy entertainment.
Volume 1: Creation to King David
The first volume starts in the Garden of Eden and follows the stories in the order they appear in the Bible: the fall, the Tower of Babel, Noah and the ark, the birth of Israel and the journey to the promised land, then Ruth, Samuel, King David and more.
Volume 2: Solomon to the prophets
Volume 2 begins with King Solomon and follows the kings of Israel to the fall of the nation. It covers the exile through Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther and Daniel, then every major and minor prophet, including Micah’s prophecy of where Jesus would be born. It closes with the rise of Greek culture leading up to the coming of Christ.
Volume 3: Jesus to Revelation
The final volume covers the life and teaching of Jesus, His death and resurrection, the early church, and His return in Revelation.
My thoughts
If you or your child grew up loving comic books, this will be right up your alley. It’s an absolute joy to flip through, and I find myself studying a single page for a long time just to take in the details.
This is very much a paraphrase, so if that bothers you, it isn’t the Bible for you. But every page includes a Scripture reference, so after a story you know exactly where to read it in your own Bible. I appreciate that they don’t sugarcoat the violent scenes, but be thoughtful about that depending on your child’s age.
When I was a teenager, I didn’t find joy in sitting down with any book, and I could easily get lost in long blocks of text. For readers like that, this set can open the door.
